Born and raised in Eldon, Mo. … Was All-State in basketball and played semi-pro baseball … Received the B.A. degree from Missouri in 1956 … Earned the B.D. degree from New Orleans Baptist Seminary in 1959 … Awarded the Th.M degree from Southwestern Baptist Seminary in 1963 and the Th.D in in 1966 … Attended post-graduate studies at Texas, Virginia and Oxford … He and his wife Bobbie were married in 1953 and the couple had two daughters, Dana and Kim … Pastored churches in Texas and Missouri while pursuing advanced degrees … Came to SBU in 1966 as first chairman of philosophy department … Twice named by students as SBU Distinguished Teacher … Received Governor’s Award for Excellence in Teaching … Longtime fan of SBU Athletics and avid golfer ... Served as SBU golf coach for several years in late 60s and early 70s… His retirement in 2005 gave him more chances to do things like watching sports and playing golf he enjoyed with family and friends until a heart condition slowed him down … Passed away in October 2020.
