Athletic Media Relations
The SBU Office of Athletics Media Relations is located in the Meyer Wellness and Sports Center. The Office of Athletics Media Relations promotes SBU Bearcat Athletics through the following:
1. Writing stories about student-athletes, coaches, and teams.
2. Organizing pictures and video clips, and making them available to promote teams, events, and programs.
3. Building solid relationships with local, regional, and national media.
4. Compiling and maintaining accurate statistics and historical records.
5. Producing media guides, game notes, & press releases.
6. Maintaining the SBU Athletics web site.
7. Protecting the design, appearance, and usage of the SBU Athletics’ logo to ensure a united front and a strong brand image for SBU Athletics.
Interviews
All media will schedule interviews of student-athletes, coaches, administration, and staff through the Office of Athletics Media Relations before visiting campus or contacting the interviewee.
The Office of Athletics Media Relations must give approval to student-athletes, coaches, administration, and staff before interviews are granted to members of the media.
Student-athletes, coaches, administration, and staff will honor interview requests made by the Office of Athletics Media Relations.
Media
The Office of Athletics Media Relations will provide available game programs, game notes, halftime and final NCAA statistics, and sport-specific media guides to all members of the media covering the game.
Photography credentials are issued by the Office of Athletics Media Relations and must be displayed at all times. Photographers must stay in the designated photographer / media areas.
Members of the media requesting press credentials for an SBU Athletics’ event should call the Office of Athletics Media Relations at least 24 hours before the event. Credentials must be displayed at all times.
Radio stations are asked to limit their play-by-play crews to no more than three people. A courtesy line is available to the official station of the visiting team. Requests to broadcast must be given to the Office of Athletics Media Relations at least 24 hours before the event. Outgoing calls must be third-party, collect, calling card, or incoming.
Student-athletes, coaches, administration, and staff are asked to conduct themselves in a professional manner, and treat members of the media with respect and courtesy.
