Bolivar, Mo. - The SBU Men's Soccer finished off their non-conference schedule today at home against the Newman University Jets. After 90 minutes, the Bearcats were able to come out with a tie, making their record 1-1-1 in non-conference play. 

 "A good way to end the non-conference season. We had chances and could have won the game but didn't manage to take advantage of those moments. I really enjoyed watching the boys play our way and control the game. The highlight was on our defensive commitment which will help a lot in conference," says Coach Sabelo Hlongwane.  

It would be a scoreless game between the Jets and the Bearcats in the first half. It wouldn't be until the 64th minute of the second half until the Bearcats would give away a penalty kick to the Jets to put them up 1-0. It would take until the last 7 minutes of the game until senior Joshua Gerdiman would make a great run into the box before being fouled by a Jets defender. Gerdiman would then step up to take the penalty and tie up the game for the Bearcats before the final whistle. 

"I also want to give a moment to recognize the input that our players off the bench brought to the game. Seeing us work together gave me a good perspective of what to expect during conference. Happy with the boys at the moment and still looking forward to more improvement," adds Coach Hlongwane as several players would come off the bench to help the Bearcats finish their non-conference play in a positive manner. 

The Bearcats will begin conference play this Friday at home against the #18 team in the country, the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds at 1:30 PM.
