Quincy, IL. - The SBU Men's Soccer team finished off their trip to Illinois today as they played against Quincy University. The Bearcats finished the weekend with a tie against the Hawks making them 2-7-2 (1-6-1 GLVC) on the season.
The Bearcats would start the game strong as they outshot the Hawks 9-4, but it would be the fourth shot from the Hawks that broke the tie and put them up 1-0 before the half. It only took 11 minutes into the second half before Jorge Muñoz crossed the ball to Santiago Palacio who beat a defender before shooting an outside of the foot shot to his near post, tying the game at 1-1. The game would be up for grabs after that as both teams continued to put on the pressure, but the game ultimately ended in a draw.
"We had a good game and a good effort from the guys. Bouncing back from a tough game on Friday, I saw a lot of good mindsets from the guys and the desire to fight for each other. I believe we have more to offer than what we have displayed, and I look forward to when it all comes together for the guys. At this point, the season is at crunch time and unfortunately, we don't have time on our side. But all in all, I believe we can do more than what we have shown," says Head Coach Sabelo Hlongwane.
Southwest Baptist will be back in action on Sunday, October 15 as they head down the road to Springfield, MO to face rivals the Drury University Panthers. Kickoff is set for 2:30 PM at the Curry Sports Complex.
