Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU women's volleyball team returned to the Meyer Sports Center Friday evening for its GLVC home opener, falling to Rockhurst University in three sets. The Hawks took the match 25-23, 25-20, and 25-19, moving the Bearcats to
9-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
SBU battled throughout the opening set, recording 16 kills and hitting .275, but Rockhurst narrowly escaped with the 25-23 victory. The Hawks carried that momentum into the next two sets, holding SBU to a .171 hitting percentage for the match. Despite the loss, the Bearcats won the battle at the net with
eight blocks compared to six for Rockhurst.
Gabriela Dupree led the Bearcat offense with 12 kills, while
Julia Marinesi added eight and
Aubrie Fellmeth finished with six kills on a .267 hitting percentage.
Kailey Sexton was highly efficient in the middle, recording five kills on seven attempts for a
.571 hitting percentage.
Allie Hawk directed the offense with 21 assists, while
Danika Mejico added 11.
Melissa Patel led SBU defensively with nine digs, followed by Marinesi with eight. At the net,
Natalie Percival, Fellmeth and Sexton each contributed four block assists.
The team will look for another weekend split as they take on William Jewell on Saturday in the Meyer Center at 3p.m.
