Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU women's volleyball team bounced back in dominant fashion Saturday afternoon, sweeping William Jewell College inside the Meyer Sports Center. The Bearcats rolled to a 25-19, 25-8, 25-9 victory to improve to 10-5 overall and 2-2 in GLVC play.
After taking the opening set 25-19, the Bearcats completely took control. SBU hit .474 without an attacking error in the second set before finishing even stronger with a .524 hitting percentage in the third. For the match, Southwest Baptist hit .388 with just five attacking errors, while holding William Jewell to a .000 hitting percentage.
Gabriela Dupree led the dominant offensive performance with 15 kills and just one error on 25 attempts, good for an impressive .560 hitting percentage. Aubrie Fellmeth added six kills while hitting .417, and Kiera Dent recorded four kills on seven attempts for a .571 percentage. Allie Hawk directed the offense with 21 assists.
SBU was just as impressive from the service line and at the net. The Bearcats recorded 12 service aces, led by Hawk with five and Audrey Weber with three. Fellmeth and Dent each finished with six block assists as SBU held an 8-2 advantage in total blocks. Melissa Patel led the defensive effort with 14 digs.
The Bearcats finished the match with a commanding 56-28 advantage in total points. They'll look to take that momentum with them into a rivalry matchup with the Drury Panthers. This game will take place on Wednesday, September 30th at Drury University with a 6p.m. start.
