Bolivar, Mo. - SBU baseball completed a thrilling comeback to beat rival Drury University 7-6 at Dodson Field Thursday evening. That win moves the Bearcats to 19-26 (11-18 GLVC) on the season.
Ryne Kaiser started out the game keeping Drury hit less through his entire 5.1 innings pitched, throwing three strikeouts. The Panther defense kept the Bearcats at bay throughout that time as the game went into the 7th inning tied at two a piece. After both teams hit homeruns in the 7th, SBU led 5-4 with a
Ryan Ray three run blast to left field. Drury scored two runs in the 8th to regain the lead at 6-5, before strong at bats by the Bearcats allowed them to score two more in the 8th for the win.
Beau Honeycutt had the game winning sacrifice fly, scoring
Jared Pugrad.
After Kaiser was relieved in the 6th,
Conner Hammonds took the mound throwing 1.2 innings followed by
Koen Van T Klooster who threw for one and record his fifth win of the season.
Jude Sundquist came in the 9th inning to shut down the Panthers with two strikeouts for his fourth save of the season.
SBU returns to Dodson field Friday afternoon for a doubleheader with Drury University beginning at 12:00 p.m.
