Crestview Hills, KY – The Southwest Baptist University men's volleyball team traveled across multiple state lines to take on Thomas Moore University this weekend. The Bearcats battled hard, but lost their first game 2-3 on Friday evening; however, they were able to redeem themselves with a 3-0 sweep on Saturday. SBU's overall record is now 11-10 and with a Great Lakes Valley Conference record of 3-9.
Game One: Despite a very strong effort, SBU was not able to overcome Thomas Moore in a tight five-set battle: (23-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-20, 10-15). In spite of the loss, the Bearcats put up a strong performance both offensively and defensively with 61 kills, 57 digs, and eight blocks. Leading the offense with a career high 30 kills was
Lucas Phelan; Keahi Kaneakua managed his third double-double of the season with 45 assists and 10 digs.
Evan Strahlendorf achieved his first double-double with 16 kills and 11 digs.
Silas Riggins added five blocks and five kills. Defensively,
Jayse Hayashi also added 11 digs.
Game 2: Coming off a tough loss the previous match, Southwest Baptist came out strong, sweeping Thomas Moore in three straight sets: (25-23, 25-23, 25-15). The Bearcats hit a .386 with 42 kills and put up a collective 33 digs.
Phelan, Strahlendorf, and
Donel Sengele each contributed 12, 10, and eight kills respectively.
Nelson Castellanos and
Riggins put up seven digs each followed by
Kaneakua with six.
The SBU men's volleyball team will conclude their regular season at home next weekend. They will take on the Quincy University Hawks on Friday, April 17th at 6:00 PM and Saturday, April 18th at 2:00 PM. The Bearcats will honor their lone senior
