Quincy, Ill.- The Southwest Baptist University Bearcats dropped an 8–4 decision to the Quincy Hawks on Friday.
SBU struck first on an RBI fielder's choice from
Cooper Burgess in the opening inning, but Quincy answered with two runs in the first and continued to build its lead, going up 6–1 by the fifth.
The Bearcats showed life in the sixth as
Scott Allan delivered an RBI single and
Jared Pugrad stole home to cut the deficit to 6–3. SBU added another in the eighth on an RBI single from
Reese Ruderman, but Quincy responded with a solo home run to secure the win.
Ryan Ray led the Bearcats with three hits, while Ruderman and Pugrad each added two. SBU totaled 12 hits but left 12 runners on base in the loss.
SBU looks to bounce back for the remainder of the series which will be played tomorrow April 11 at 12pm and 3pm in Quincy at the QU Baseball Stadium.
