Bearcats Split Day Two with Quincy Hawks

Quincy, IL. — The Southwest Baptist Bearcats traveled to Quincy, Illinois this week to face the Hawks. SBU started off Friday, April 10th with a loss, but split the following Saturday making their record against Quincy 1-2 on the weekend. This brings the Bearcats to 14-21 on the season and 8-15 within the Conference.

Game 1: Loss, 3-11
Though a tough loss in the first game of the day, the Bearcats showed resilience pushing back late in the game scoring three runs in the last 3 innings, while holding Quincy to zero runs in the last two innings. The offense came alive when pressure on the infield produced two runs in the fifth, highlighted by Scott Allan crossing the plate. Ryan Ray added the final punch in the seventh with a clean RBI single up the middle and later swiped a bag to keep the inning moving. It wasn't enough to close the gap, but the late surge helped carry momentum into the second game of the afternoon. Eli Stewart started on the mound throwing two innings, recording his second loss of the season.

Game 2: Win, 5-4
Southwest Baptist put together a solid overall showing at the plate on the second game, fueled by the finish of the first game. Finishing with eight hits and four RBI's, helped by strong days from Conner Titus and Cameron Dean, who each picked up two hits. The Bearcats fell behind early at 1-4, but they began their comeback in the 5th inning scoring four unanswered runs to win the game. Defensively, they stayed sharp with zero errors, backing their pitchers with 21 putouts and 11 assists to keep the game steady behind them. Roberto Garcia started on the mound with 2.1 innings, to be relieved by Nash Crosby who went 3.2 innings allowing no runs on four hits recording his first win of the season. This win against the Hawks was the first win against Quincy in program history.
