Bolivar, Mo. – SBU softball not only continued their home stand, Monday evening, but extended their winning streak to five. This came from a doubleheader sweep against Minnesota State University – Moorhead moving their season record to 10-10.
Game 1: Win, 6-5
Bearcats got to a quick 3-0 lead through the first three innings. This included an RBI from both
Joscelyn Bennett and
Shalie Wooden, along with strong base running of
Taylor Howard. The Dragons didn't go away quietly as they scored three in the 5
th to knot up the game. Each team scored another run before Sophomore
Keeley Elsea stepped up scoring two in the bottom of the 6
th putting the Bearcats ahead 6-4. In the bottom of the 7
th, the Bearcats turned a big double play to end the game.
Sophomore
Abby Leer started on the mound and returned on the mound in the 7
th inning to earn the start and the save. She through a total of five innings, not allowing a single run. Freshman
Cambri Van Loo recorded her first win in her collegiate career pitching 1.2 innings.
Game 2: Win, 6-4
The second game in the day was full of home runs, mostly hit by the Bearcats. The first was hit by junior
Joscelyn Bennett who launched a two-run blast that scored Elsea. After a homer from the Dragons, SBU answered back with two more of their own. Freshman
Ashley Gruben who recorded her first homerun of her collegiate career, put SBU up 3-1. The very next inning,
Shalie Wooden garnered the third homerun of her season, scoring
Kinleigh Kite for a 5-1 lead.
Jalaya Ries singled to third scoring Elsea for the final Bearcat run of the day.
Along with the two-run blast, Wooden pitched six innings recording her 5
th win of the season. Van Loo continued her spectacular day recording her second save of the season.
Elsea had a spectacular day hitting .750 along with four walks for an .875 on base percentage. She also had two RBI's, three runs, and two stolen bases.
The Bearcats will return to action on Wednesday against Augustana University. This doubleheader will take place at SBU softball field at 1 & 3 p.m.
