Bolivar, Mo. – Wednesday afternoon, SBU softball competed in one final non-conference battle before the start of GLVC play this upcoming weekend. The Bearcats five game win streak ended against the Vikings as they fell in both games moving to 10-12 on the season.
Game 1: Loss, 2-12
The Bearcats fell behind early and despite recording 10 hits in the game could only get two runs across the plate. Those runs were scored by
Taylor Howard and
Ashley Gruben each knocked in by
Jacie Frencken and
Joscelyn Bennett recording the teams only RBI's in the game.
Abby Leer started on the mound and recorded two strikeouts in her 5
th loss of the season.
Game 2: Loss, 7-10
In the final game of the doubleheader, it was a much closer affair that included four lead changes. After the Vikings took the lead in the first SBU bounced right back to score three in the bottom half that included an RBI by Bennett. Trailing 1-3, the Vikings scored five straight before SBU put up four in the bottom of the 4
th off RBI's from Howard and Bennett. Augustana went on to score the final four runs to end the game at 7-10.
Southwest Baptist will return to action on Saturday as they begin conference play seeking their first GLVC tournament in program history. Their first game will be against the Lincoln Blue Tigers, whom the Bearcats swept in a doubleheader last year on the road. These games will be in Bolivar starting at 12:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
