Springfield, Ill. – Southwest Baptist softball concluded their road trip Sunday afternoon dropping a doubleheader against the Illinois-Springfield Prairie Stars (UIS). Dropping both games moved them to 13-17 (3-5 GLVC) on the season.
Game 1: Loss, 0-8
The Prairie Stars started off the scoring in the first, recording two runs in each of the first three innings for an early 6-0 lead. The Bearcats had opportunities to score runs but struggled getting runners across the plate.
Graccee Brockman,
Taylor Howard, and
Ashley Gruben each recorded a hit in the game.
Abby Leer started on the mound and threw 2.1 innings with four earned runs moving her record to 5-8.
Game 2: Loss, 0-5
It was a pitching and defensive battle in the first four innings of the game, each team remaining scoreless. SBU had the first chance to score with runners on 2
nd and 3
rd and one out in the first inning, but strong pitching from the Prairie Stars kept the score at zero. UIS opened the scoring in the 5
th inning with a singular run, then added four more insurance runs in the 6
th to close the game.
Lucy Sadewhite recorded the sole hit for SBU. Senior
Shalie Wooden started on the mound and threw a strong 5.2 innings which included five strikeouts and only three earned runs.
Bearcat softball will return to action for some mid week games on Wednesday in Bolivar. These games will be against Ouachita Baptist on March 25
th beginning at 2:00 p.m.
