OWENSBORO, Ky. — Southwest Baptist University (SBU) split Saturday's doubleheader versus Kentucky Wesleyan, dominating game one 17-0 before falling 4-5 in 10 innings in game two. SBU moves to 3-6 on the year.
In game one, the Bearcats erupted for 17 runs on 13 hits, scoring in six of seven innings.
Jared Pugrad went 3-3 from the batter's box with three RBIs, and
Raydley Legito added two hits and three RBIs of his own. Home runs from
Reese Ruderman and
Cameron Dean capped off the offensive outburst. On the mound,
Eli Stewart earned the win with six shutout innings, allowing just two hits and striking out five as SBU cruised to the victory.
In game two, SBU battled back to tie the game 4-4 in the seventh inning behind key hits from Legito and Ruderman, but Kentucky Wesleyan plated the winning run in the 10th on a wild pitch.
Ryan Ray got on base five times and stole two bases.
Koen Van T Klooster had a strong start on the mound, going six innings and allowing only two runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts.
SBU will be back at Dodson Field on February 27 and 28. The Bearcats will play one game on Friday at 5 p.m. against Champion Christian College before playing a double header on Saturday. The first game of the double header is set to start at 12 p.m. with the second to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
