Bolivar, MO. — Back at home in the Dodson field, Southwest Baptist baseball won the first of three games against the Champion Christian Tigers with a commanding 13-3 final score. This win brings the total SBU record to 4-6 with junior pitcher
Ryne Kaiser now going 1-2 on the season for SBU.
Champion Christian opened the game with a first inning homer, which was quickly responded to with the Bearcats scoring three in the bottom of the first. SBU would go for two innings unanswered before the Tigers would respond to make it 6-3 in favor of SBU.Starting in the 5th inning, the Bearcats would go on to score seven more unanswered run causing a run-rule win in the 7th.
The Bearcats were led by Senior Left fielder
Raydley Legito who scored three of SBU's runs, helping him to a season high in runs. He was followed by junior designated hitter
Cooper Burgess and junior third baseman
Beau Honeycutt with two of their own runs each. The team totaled 13 runs and 12 hits over the 34 at bats throughout the game. Three different Bearcats recorded a home run from Burgess,
Lane Snow, and
Sam Schmidt.
