Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU men's tennis team continued their season Friday afternoon battling former MIAA foes, Emporia State. Southwest Baptist fell to the Hornets 1-4, moving to 1-3 on the season.
The doubles point came down to the wire after the first two matches were split evenly. SBU lost at the #3 spot 4-6, but
Juani Morresi and
Alejandro Beneyto Sanchez won at the #2 spot 6-3. The decisive game for doubles came down to a tie breaker in the #1 spot, where
Oliver Kocanovic and
Alexandru Marinescu fell 3-7 sending the doubles point to the Hornets.
Singles mainly went the way of Emporia State as they won three of the four single matches played. The sole SBU point in the match came from senior Beneyto Sanchez as he completed a three-set comeback. After falling behind in the first 5-7, he bounced back in the next two winning 6-4, 6-2 for a win at the #1 spot.
The Bearcats will now begin a long road journey as they don't return home until March 21
st. Their next games will take place in a week on Friday and Saturday February 27
th, 28
th. They will start with a game against Southern Arkansas University at 2:30 p.m. in Magnolia, Arkansas.
