Bolivar, MO – The Southwest Baptist University men's volleyball team hosted the Avila University Eagles in their inaugural home opener in Meyer Sports Center. The Bearcats swept the Eagles in three straight sets: 25-17, 25-13, 25-18. The Bearcats are now 2-1 on the season.
The moment was special for these student-athletes as they got to take the floor in front of hundreds of Bearcat faithful. Each student-athlete got a chance for a spotlight in having their name read before the game, mentioning they are and will always be part of history at Southwest Baptist. That excitement and thrill continued on into the game for a smooth and easy win for SBU.
In all three sets, the Bearcats held the lead and dominated at the service line, racking up a total of 10 service aces, rivaling their opponents' six. Four of those aces came from Freshman
Silas Riggins who also had 3 blocks. Leading the way in kills was Freshman
Lucas Phelan with 14, Freshman
Evan Strahlendorf with 7, and Freshman
Donel Sengele with 4. Freshman
Keahi Kaneakua secured his first double-double of his collegiate career with 22 assists and 10 digs.
The Bearcats are set to travel to Lamoni, IA to take on Graceland University on Friday, February 6th at 7:00 pm and Saturday, February 7th at 10:00 am.
