Bearcats Sweep Yellowjackets for Three Straight Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Lamoni, Iowa Southwest Baptist University's men's volleyball traveled to Iowa to take on the Graceland University (GU) Yellowjackets, defeating them in five sets Friday night and in four sets Saturday Morning. In their inaugural season they now have an impressive 4-1 record. 
 
Game 1: SBU defeats Graceland 3-2 (21-25, 25-18, 25-22, 20-25, 15-9). The Bearcats outscored the Yellowjackets in kills in each set, the largest margin being 18-6 in the second. In the same set, the Bearcats collectively hit an impressive .400 compared to GU's .077.
 
In a game determined by offensive efficiency, freshman Evan Strahlendorf scored 29 kills across 5 sets, hitting an outstanding .420. Freshman Lucas Phelan also racked up 20 kills across 5 sets with a .239 hitting percentage. Freshman Keahi Kaneakua accomplished another double-double with 46 assists and 13 digs. Junior Nelson Castellanos had 27 digs, shutting down Graceland's offense. 
 
Game 2: SBU defeats Graceland 3-1 (25-27, 25-22, 27-25, 25-17). After a slow start, the Bearcats dominated the rest of the game. In the last three sets, SBU beat GU in kills with the high being in the fourth where SBU doubled Graceland's kills (16-8). SBU also hit a cumulative .462 in the fourth. Freshman Darrell Kosechequetah had a high of 17 kills followed by freshman Lucas Phelan with 13 and freshman Evan Strahlendorf with 12. Freshmen Silas Riggins and Jeremiah Crecelius were both highly efficient in the middle, hitting a .500 and a .462 respectively. 
 
The Bearcats will be in action again at home on Friday, February 20th at 6:30 pm and Saturday February 21st at 2:00 pm.
