Lebanon, IL. – For the first time this season the SBU men's basketball team fell in back-to-back games as they battled the Nationally recognized McKendree Bearcats Thursday evening. The final in the game saw SBU fall 62-69 moving them to 9-7 (3-5 GLVC) on the season.
The game started out the same way it was played throughout the entire contest, physical. Teams battled for every point forcing two ties and two lead changes in the first 10 minutes. Southwest Baptist landed the first big punch going on a 9-3 run taking a 19-12 lead. McKendree landed one right back with a 9-0 run of their own to take the lead that would hold the rest of the game.
Though SBU was never able to complete a comeback, many strong pushes brought the game within reach. A big contribution to that was
Zac Reedus and his team high 16 points while shooting 55% from the field.
Luke Ogle,
Brandon Moore, and
Leo Gayman each reached double figures with 11, 10, and 10 points respectively.
Jevin Sullivan led all players in rebounds with 12 and was just two points shy of another double-double.
SBU will remain on the road as they travel to University of Illinois-Springfield Saturday to battle the Prairie Stars. This game will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the TRAC.
