Searcy, Ark. – Southwest Baptist Men's Soccer created plenty of opportunities on the road Monday evening but couldn't find the finishing touch, dropping a 0-2 decision to Harding University in non conference play.
The Bearcats controlled stretches of the first half and kept the Bisons scoreless through 45 minutes. SBU out shot Harding early with seven shots in just the first half and 12 total for the game. The Bearcats performed with double the amount of shots on goal compared to Harding and forced multiple saves from goalkeeper Rinner Stewart, who proved to be the difference of the night with seven stops.
Harding broke through in the 56th minute when Nojus Grudis scored from close range, then added a second in the 67th minute to make it 0-2.
Southwest Baptist continued to push forward, with
Nadir Souak,
Derrick Londono, and
Luis Sanchez-Barbudo Cruz all testing the keeper in the second half. Stewart, however, turned away every chance to preserve the clean sheet.
Goalkeeper
Jan-Henry Schafer recorded a pair of saves for the Bearcats, including a diving stop in the 58th minute to keep SBU within striking distance.
Southwest Baptist (2-1-0) will look to bounce back quickly as they continue their early-season road stretch on Wednesday at University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy in St. Louis at 7:30pm.
