JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist men's soccer team created numerous chances on the road Friday night but came up just short, falling 0-1 to Lincoln University, receiving votes in the National Poll, in their second Great Lakes Valley Conference match of the season.
After a scoreless first half in which the Bearcats fired multiple shots through the Blue Tiger defense, both teams went into the break locked at 0–0. SBU goalkeeper Jan-Henry Schafer kept the match level with a first half save, making a stop in the 35th minute.
Lincoln broke through in the 60th minute when Nkouka Loubassou scored the lone goal of the contest. From there, the Bearcats pressed for an equalizer, recording five second-half shots on target.
Joshua Shirkey,
Iker Lorenzo,
Fisher Hudak, and Cherik all forced saves from Blue Tigers' keeper Vincent Osei, who finished with five stops to preserve the clean sheet.
Schafer turned away five shots on the night to keep SBU within striking distance.
Southwest Baptist (3–3–0, 0–2–0 GLVC) will now turn its focus to Sunday's matchup in St. Louis against Missouri–St. Louis, a tough road test that will challenge the Bearcats to return home with some conference standings points.
