Women's Soccer Conclude Non-Conference Action Against Northwest Missouri

Maryville, Mo. - The SBU women's soccer team ended their non-conference schedule Wednesday evening as they battled the green Bearcats. The purple Bearcats fell to Northwest Missouri State (NWMSU) 1-3, moving to 2-3 on the season.

With the rest of conference season looming, SBU focused on fine tuning some more skills against the strong MIAA opponent. A back-and-forth game early was broken by NWMSU off a header precisely sent into the top corner of the net. The game stayed tight throughout the rest of the first half until NWMSU struck twice within five minute to lead 0-3 after 45.

Southwest Baptist didn't go quietly as it only took a few minutes of the second half to score their first goal of the game. Freshman Lydia Fickle scored her second goal of the season with a well placed shot into the bottom left part of the net. This would be the final goal of the match as the game ended 1-3 after 90 minutes.

With two more games in the next four days, no Bearcat played a full 90 but 16 played 40 plus minutes. Two goalies saw minutes in the game with junior Sydney King starting and recording three saves. In the second half, Sophomore Ella Martin went in and tallied five saves.

Next up for SBU will be this Friday evening as they travel to Jefferson City, Missouri to take on Lincoln University. This game will take place at 5:00pm.
