Bearcats Drop Heartbreaker in Season Conference Opener

St. Louis, Mo. - The SBU women's soccer team began conference play Sunday afternoon as they traveled to Maryville University to take on the Nationally ranked Saints. The game ended in a heart breaker for the Bearcats as they fell 0-1, with a goal coming in the final seconds. That moves them to 2-2 (0-1 GLVC) on the season.

Entering the game, the Bearcats knew their work would be cut out for them as they opened GLVC action against the #22 ranked team on the road. Despite that, SBU gave the Saints all they could handle keeping them at bay for most of the game.

With the score knotted up at zero after 45, Addi Shuler nearly gave the Bearcats a lead shortly into the second half with a shot on goal. Strong defensive play from the SBU defense kept the Saints from getting any strong chances on net. This back line was held down by Jadyn Clark, Emma Burton, and Taylor Branch, all who played a full 90. Those shots that did get through were stopped by Cece Alexander, making eight saves in the game.

This strong defensive presence held up for 89 minutes until one final push from the Saints got through. With 2.7 seconds left on the clock, Maryville was able to put the ball in the back of the net, snagging a point from the SBU women's soccer team.

SBU will look to bounce back this coming Wednesday as they travel to Maryville University to take on the green Bearcats. The non-conference matchup against Northwest Missouri State will take place at 3:00pm.
