Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU baseball team finished their series against the Lincoln Blue Tigers splitting the day moving to 14-20 (7-9 GLVC) on the season.
Game 1: W, 5-2
Bearcats got off to an early lead in the first inning off an RBI from
Tre Munging scoring
Cole Reece. The all-time home run leader
Zeke Skinner added to that lead with a two-run blast in the third. Followed shortly by solid base running from
Lane Snow giving SBU their 4
th run. The Blue Tigers attempted a comeback cutting into the lead with two runs in the 4
th and the 6
th.
Dominic Tellez added an insurance run in the 6
th with a sacrifice fly before
Sam Peterson came in for the save.
Jaden Thacker took the win for Southwest Baptist throwing five innings allowing one run off four hits. He also tallied five strikeouts in recording his second win of the season.
Cade Langford saw time on the mound before Peterson pitched the final inning.
Game 2: L, 12-14
While game one was a pitcher's battle, the second game transitioned to a hitters battle. Lincoln started on top with strong first two innings taking a 0-7 lead. The Bearcats proceeded to go on a 5-0 run off RBI's from
Jared Pugrad,
Raydley Legito, Skinner, Mungin, and
Xie Ferguson. It was a two-run game until the 6
th inning where the Blue Tigers doubled their score in the next two innings. Despite being down nine runs, the Bearcats didn't give up as the put up a six spot in the 8
th inning bringing it to a three run game. Mungin,
Reese Ruderman, and
Mel Mulholland started out with an RBI apiece. Ray Legito kept the inning alive with a blooper to center that scored two more runs, then the pressure got to the pitcher scoring the 6
th run on a balk. One more run in the 9
th made it a two run game before the Blue Tigers secured the win.
Khalil V'azquez Torres started on the mound recording the loss.
Jake Fuller shortly after came on the mound pitching 4.1 innings allowing two runs and throwing two strikeouts.
Ethan Clark and
Kelden Hastings also pitched at least one full inning.
The Bearcats will return to action this coming weekend as they travel to St. Louis to take on Maryville University. The first game will take place on Friday at 2:00pm.
