Softball Drops Doubleheader to Bulldogs on Road

Kirksville, MO.- The SBU Softball team went 0-2 against the Truman State University Bulldogs in their series on Sunday afternoon. This puts them at 17-21 (9-9 GLVC) for the season.

Game 1: L- 1-9
The Bulldogs were the first team to get on the board in the first inning and proceeded to score three total runs in this inning, based on three separate RBIs. However, the Bearcats answered back with getting on the board in the second inning making the score 1-3 thanks to a single to center by Audrey Rahlmann. The Bulldogs scored again off a wild pitch in the bottom of the third. The next two innings the Bearcats struggled to find a way to score, while the Bulldogs scored five more runs. Emma Vincent was the only other Bearcat to add to the hitting column for SBU earlier in the game.

SBU started off the game with Abby Leer pitching (3.1 innings), as she recorded the only two strikeouts for the Bearcats. Kylee Dewey (0.2) and Emma Kreisel (0.2) also made appearances on the mound, though Leer recorded the loss (L, 3-4).

Game 2: L- 1-5
For game two, the Bulldogs were also quick to grab the lead in the first inning. They went on a 3-0 run through the second inning with two home runs. The Bearcats had two hits in the first two innings, but couldn't find a way to score, leaving three runners on base. It wasn't until the fourth inning did SBU score their first run started with a double by Rahlmann and a sacrifice fly RBI by Hayley Sites. The same inning, the Bulldogs scored two more runs that were unearned. Despite the Bearcats trying to battle back while being down, they were unable to come back and score more.

The Bearcats had Shalie Wooden (2.2) starting on the mound, followed by Paige Leithead (3.1). Wooden recorded the loss for the game (L, 7-5) while Leithead recorded the only strikeout for SBU.

SBU will travel to Liberty, MO. for their next conference series against the William Jewell College Cardinals on Monday, April 7 at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
