Springfield, Mo. – The SBU women's tennis team opened GLVC action with a 4-2 win over the University of Missouri St. Louis Tritons. That moves them to 7-5 (1-0 GLVC) on the season.
 
The match started with a close doubles going in favor of the Bearcats picking up the early point. At the #1 spot, Paula Ballesteros and Defne Ursan defeated their opponents 6-3. Leticia Luiz and Polina Paunova did not have the same fortune at the two-spot falling closely 5-7. It was a swift and easy #3 spot for SBU as Maria Clara Zotti and Giselle Garcia dominated 6-1 clinching the doubles point.
 
Ballesteros continued her strong day at the #1 spot in singles defeating her #15 ranked opponent in two swift sets (6-2, 6-4), adding the second point to SBU's total. Shortly after Ursan put the Bearcats within the win coming clutch in a three-set match at the #2 spot (2-6, 7-6, 6-2). The #3 and #4 spots gave the Tritons some hope as they picked up the win, both in three set matches. Paunova went 6-2, 3-6, 5-7 at the #3 spot while Luiz battled back in the #4 spot (2-6, 7-6, 0-1). Once it again, the final clinching point went in the hands of freshman Maria Clara Zotti, who took down her opponent in the #6 spot (6-4, 6-1).
 
The Bearcats will take the weekend off before heading to Fulton, Missouri to battle William Woods University. This game will take place on Thursday April 10^th at 2:00pm.
