St. Louis, Mo. – The SBU softball team continued their season Friday afternoon falling in two games to the Maryville Saints. This moves their record to 19-24 (11-13 GLVC) on the season.
Game 1: L, 0-6
The Saints got off to an early lead in the 1
st and held the Bearcats scoreless while adding on throughout. SBU had numerous chances to send runners across the plate but timely pitching and defense held the Bearcats at bay.
Angie Micone and
Emma Vincent led the team with two hits apiece, while
Kate McConville and
Keeley Elsea also added one.
Paige Leithead started on the mound pitching for three innings and recorded the loss. Freshman
Abby Leer came in relief throwing the final three innings only allowing one run off three hits.
Game 2: L, 3-5
The Bearcats got on the scoreboard first with two runs off strong base running from McConville and
Margo Frossard. One run came from the Saints in the bottom half of the 1
st then they tied it up in the 3
rd. The game remained tied at two until the 5
th where the Saints took a three-run lead. A final inning rally came from SBU as they scored one run, but were unable to complete the comeback. Micone, Elsea,
Hayley Sites,
Emily Titus, and
Kinleigh Kite all recorded a hit in the game.
Shalie Wooden started on the mount throwing 4.1 innings along with three strikeouts. Despite a strong outing from her, she still recorded the loss. Leer came in for the final 1.2 innings allowing only one hit and 0 runs along with two strikeouts.
Southwest Baptist will return to action next Saturday April, 26
th as they host the Missouri S&T Miners. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 12pm at the SBU softball field in Bolivar.
