Bolivar, MO.- The SBU Softball team went 2-0 in their series against the Rockhurst University Hawks on Sunday afternoon, for their first sweep over the Hawks since 2018. This puts them at 19-23 (11-11 GLVC) for the season. That win moves them into 8
th in the GLVC standings with just six games left to play. The top-8 make the conference tournament.

Game 1: W- 4-3
The Bearcats were the first team to get on the board with three runs in the first inning.
Kate McConville started the run for SBU with the first hit of the game, followed by another hit by
Emma Vincent to contribute to the 3-0 run. The first two innings the Hawks were held hitless until they answered back in the third with a solo homerun. SBU continued separating themselves with the lead adding another run in the bottom of the third with McConville stealing home after another hit from her. The Hawks didn't score again until the top of the seventh with a two-run homerun, but that wasn't enough as the bearcats held on for the 4-3 victory. McConville and Vincent each had a team high two hits in the game.

Paige Leithead started on the mound pitching for SBU (3.0 innings) allowing only one run but also recording three strikeouts. She was followed by
Abby Leer going four innings only allowing runs in the 7
th, picking up her 4
th win of the season. Â

Game 2: W- 3-2
This time it was Rockhurst on the board first shortly in the top of the first inning. The Bearcats struggled finding a way to score in the first two innings but answered back in the bottom of the third. SBU's first run was scored by McConville after reaching base on a hit. Then a batter later, a couple errors by the Hawks defense and McConville's speed allowed her to touch home plate tying the game. The next inning the Hawks regained the lead with another run which was contributed by two doubles. SBU continued to battle back and got the lead for the first time in the game in the bottom of the fourth. After a single and strong base running by Haley Sites,
Angie Micone sent her home with a single to center field. For her second hit of the game, McConville's double scored the game winning run pushing Micone across the plate. Over the next three innings SBU held the Hawks scoreless by only giving up one hit, which secured the sweep for the Bearcats.

Shalie Wooden pitched a complete game recording her 8
th win of the season. Wooden dominated on the mound only giving up two runs in seven innings and threw three strikeouts and her 5
th complete game of the season.

The Bearcats will travel to St. Louis, MO. for their next series on Friday, April 18. They will play the Maryville University Saints at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm.
