St. Louis, MO. - The SBU baseball team continued their weekend series against the Saints of Maryville University with a Saturday doubleheader that resulted in two losses. This brings the Bearcats to a record of 14-23 (7-12 GLVC) for the season.
Game 1: L, 3-4
Sophomore
Ryan McClish (4-4) started on the mound for the Bearcats, finishing with the loss. He went the distance, allowing four earned runs and struck out five on 84 pitches.
Maryville scored two of their four runs in the bottom of the first before SBU responded with a single off the bat of
Raydley Legito that scored
Marcos Franjul in the top of the 2nd. Then, the Saints added another run in the bottom half to extend their lead to 3-1. After
Zeke Skinner reached base in the top of the 4th, Franjul continued his contribution with a two-run home run to left field that tied things up at 3. Maryville added another run in the 6th to give them the 4-3 advantage.
Marcos Franjul added a triple to his stat line and paced SBU, going 2-3 with 2 runs and 2 RBIs.
Game 2: L, 1-12
After three scoreless innings on the mound for starter
Cade Langford (0-2), Maryville broke through with a 5-run 4th inning that pushed SBU to turn to the bullpen. The Saints added six in the 5th and another in the 6th to bring their score to 12.
Offensively, the Bearcats finished with 6 hits and scored their sole run in the top of the 4th on a
Reese Ruderman single, scoring
Tre Mungin. Mungin and
Zeke Skinner each finished with a double and Marcos Frangul,
Jared Pugrad, and
Trey Runge each contributed a hit.
SBU will wrap up the series against the Saints on Sunday with a 12 PM afternoon contest.
