Baseball Dominates the Day to Take Series Off McKendree

Lebanon, IL. - The SBU Baseball team concluded their second day doubleheader road trip with dominant wins over Mckendree University in non-conference play. Offensive and defensive dominance propelled the Bearcats to a 7-10 record just before conference play.

Game 1 : W, 8-2

The Bearcats got the game started with the bats rolling. At the top of the first, Dominic Tellez set the tone for the day with his second homer of the weekend. Later in the inning, after Marcos Franjul reached base on an error and Zeke Skinner got walked, Raydley Legito capitalized on the momentum smashing his first homer of the season, pushing SBU's lead to five early.

The opposing Bearcats were never able to climb back due to a good defensive team effort. Through roughly five innings of pitching, Jake Fuller had four strikeouts while the entire defense forced five groundouts and five fly outs while pulling out the win. Cade Langford closed the game out with two more punch outs and zero runs allowed.

Early offense and lock down defense throughout earned SBU the first victory of the doubleheader.

Game 2 :W, 9-2

The bearcats continued their momentum holding the lead throughout all of game two. Another great defensive fielding game from SBU concluded a day they allowed only four runs over two games. Jaden Thacker through a complete game four strikeouts and only 94 pitches thrown to Mckendree's 195. Through that time he only allowed six hits and two earned runs.

SBU kept the offense consistent throughout the game, scoring a run in five of the innings. NSeven different Bearcats got a hit while Dominic Tellez, Lane Snow, Zeke Skinner and Hayden Prewitt all tallied two.

Lane Snow was able to keep his dominant batting season going with a team high three RBI's. While this game pushes his current batting average to .349, he concluded the four game series with 6 hits and 10 RBI's . Zeke Skinner also came up big in this series finishing the game with a home run and 2 RBI's making his series total 7. His hitting has consistently improved throughout the season now with a .339 batting average, third best on the team.
