Bolivar, MO. - This weekend the Bearcats opened conference play beginning Saturday afternoon with a double header against the William Jewell Cardinals. The Bearcats started out conference with a bang sweeping the day moving to 9-10 (2-0 GLVC) record and extending their win streak to five, longest since 2021.
Game 1: W, 13-12
The game started off with a boom by both teams combining for nine runs in the first inning, six belonging to the Bearcats. SBU's first runs came off the bat of
Tre Mungin hitting a grand slam, setting the pace for the rest of the game.
Cole Reece and Caden Shaver went on to cross the plate later in the inning giving SBU a 6-3 lead early. The cardinals battled back, taking the lead in the 4
th 6-7. In that same inning Mungin, recording a triple scoring
Mel Mulholland, putting Mungin just a double away from the cycle. Two more lead changes and ties had the Bearcats trailing 9-12 heading into the bottom of the 8

Zeke Skinner launched a three-run home run scoring
Lane Snow and Mullholland tying the game. After a high-quality defensive top of the 9
th,
Lane Snow walked the game off with a single up the middle scoring
Nick Brown.
Four Bearcats took the mound including
Roberto Garcia,
Nash Crosby,
Cade Langford, and
Sam Peterson. Peterson pitched a scoreless ninth inning including two strikeouts recording the win to move to 2-0 on the season.
Game 2: W, 6-4
The fire continued into the second game where the Bearcats had the lead for the entire game. This started with an RBI from
Zeke Skinner in the first knocking in
Dominic Tellez. The defense showed up, holding off all runs for the first three innings. In the 3
rd inning with bases loaded R. Ruderman doubled to left center allowing
Raydley Legito, Mungin and Skinner to run, putting SBU up five. The Cardinals didn't give up scoring three unanswered runs making it a two-run game. Another RBI from
Lane Snow in the 6
th inning added an insurance run before
Cody Gibson closed the game out recording a save.
Ryan McClish was the only other pitcher, throwing for five innings allowing five hits and three earned runs picking up his third win of the season.
On the day,
Tre Mungin led the team with five RBI's shortly followed by
Zeke Skinner's four. The reigning GLVC player of the week in
Lane Snow also had a strong day with three hits and two RBI's.
Dominic Tellez was right up there with three hits and an RBI.
SBU baseball will be back in action Sunday afternoon as they finish the opening conference series against the Cardinals. First pitch for the doubleheader will be at 12:30pm.
