Lebanon, IL. - The SBU baseball team was back in action with a Friday afternoon doubleheader as they opened up a four-game series with McKendree University in non-conference action. They split the games, moving them to 5-10 on the season.
Game 1: L, 13-16
Roberto Garcia started on the mound for SBU and pitched into the 4th inning, finishing with 5 strikeouts. Nash Crosby (1-2) added another 6 K's, but finished with the loss.
In a high scoring matchup that featured nine total homeruns, SBU started out hot at the plate as they scored 12 of their 13 runs in the first 3 innings. To get things started, Zeke Skinner singled in Raydley Legito. Graduate Tre Mungin answered the call next with a 3-run home run to left field that scored both Skinner and Franjul. Moving to the top of the 2nd, Franjul brought in Lane Snow on a homer to left. Both Lane Snow (3-run HR) and Dominic Tellez (2-run HR) kept the firework show going in the top of the 3rd.
Despite this hot hitting from SBU, McKendree used a 7-run 4th inning and 3 run output in the 7th to come out on top.
Game 2: W, 14-3
The Bearcats of SBU answered the Game 1 loss quickly with another 5-run first inning behind a grand slam by Tre Mungin and a Cayden Shaver single. Lane Snow added another homer on the afternoon, bringing in Franjul in the top of the 2nd that was followed by a solo shot off the bat of Skinner.
Snow put the Bearcats ahead 9-0 on a single that scored Hayden Prewitt. After a few more SBU runs throughout, Skinner sealed the victory with a 3 RBI double in the top of the 6th. Raydley Legito added 2 hits and DH Connor Hammonds added one, bringing their total to 12 for the game.
Ryan McClish (2-1) finished with 6 K's and came away with the win on the mound.
SBU will be back in action Saturday at 11am & 2 PM, with another doubleheader against the Bearcats of McKendree.
