McConville Hits Solo Home Run; Bearcats Fall to Gorillas

Pittsburg, Kan. – The SBU softball team finished their non-conference schedule Monday evening as they took on the Nationally recognized Gorillas. The Bearcats fell to them in a doubleheader moving to 6-12 on the season.

Game 1: L, 2-10
Graduate Kate McConville got the ball rolling for the Bearcats leading off with a home run to left center giving the team an early lead. That lead didn't hold for long as Pitt State went on a 6-0 scoring run before Audrey Rahlman knocked in SBU's second and final run of the game.

McConville led the team with two hits to go along with her single RBI. Margo Frossard, Audrey Rahlmann, Keeley Elsea, and Reagan Echelmeier were the only other Bearcats to record a hit in the game. Taylor Howard and Lindsey Essary were two Bearcat pitchers to take the mound, Howard recorded the loss.

Game 2: L, 3-9
In the second game of the day, the Gorillas took an early lead in the first and extended it to 0-6 in the 4th. In the top of the 5th, the Bearcats cut the lead in half scoring three runs with Emma Vincent, Kaitlyn Ragsdale, and Keeley Elsea all touched home plate. The Bearcats were unable to complete the comeback, as the Gorillas tacked on three more runs to pull away.

Sophomore Angie Micone continued her impressive season batting .500 in this game with a team high two hits. Rahlmann, Shalie Wooden, and Elsea each recorded a hit. Abby Leer, Kylee Dewey, and Emma Kreisel all pitched for Southwest Baptist with Leer recording the loss.

The Bearcat softball team will return to action this upcoming Friday as they begin GLVC play. They will travel to St. Louis, to take on the University of Missouri-St. Louis Tritons on Saturday at 12pm.
