Godfrey & Wooden Power Bearcats in Game 2 Securing Split With Hawks

Bolivar, MO - The SBU softball team continued conference play with a Saturday doubleheader against the Hawks of Quincy University, splitting the series. They now move to 15-19 (7-7 GLVC) on the season.

Game 1: L, 1-3
The Bearcats were led on the mound by Junior Emma Kreisel who pitched a complete game, only giving up 3 runs on 4 hits. At the plate, SBU found a run in the bottom of the 5th on a double off the bat of Kate McConville that scored pinch runner Kaitlyn Ragsdale to bring them within two. Despite finding a couple baserunners in the last two innings, the Bearcats weren't able to close the gap.

Offensively, Graccee Godfrey went 2-2 with 2 singles and Hayley Sites added a single up the middle, going 1-3.

Game 2: W, 4-3
Going into the 5th inning, the Bearcats and Hawks were entrenched in a 0-0 pitcher's duel, until Junior Graccee Godfrey came up clutch with a bases clearing 3 RBI double that scored Angie Micone, Kate McConville, and Hayley Sites. Keeley Elsea repaid the favor by scoring Godfrey on a single to left center, bringing the score to 4-0 in favor of the Bearcats. Starting pitcher Shalie Wooden continued her dominance on the mound by protecting the lead in the 6th. In the 7th, the Hawks made things interesting by scoring 3 to bring it to within one. Wooden however finished the game strong by striking out the last batter, giving her the complete game victory and moving her to 6-4 on the season.

SBU will round out their weekend action with another doubleheader conference matchup against the Peacocks of Upper Iowa University tomorrow in Bolivar at 12 & 2 PM.
