Kirksville, MO - The SBU baseball team opened up their road series against the Truman State Bulldogs with a 6-5 victory on Friday afternoon. They are now 12-15 (5-4 GLVC) for the season.
After giving up one run in the bottom of the 1st, the Bearcats maintained control for the majority of the game thanks to a 4-run 2nd inning. Junior
Jared Pugrad got things rolling with an RBI single that scored
Xie Ferguson before
Raydley Legito added an RBI double that scored
Cole Reece.
Dominic Tellez moved Pugrad across the plate on a ground ball to first followed by a RBI single off the bat of
Lane Snow that scored Legito. SBU added another run on a SAC fly from Reece that scored
Tre Mungin in the 3rd and Legito scored his second run of the afternoon thanks to a single from
Marcos Franjul in the top of the 7th.
The Bearcats brought a 6-2 lead into the 8th inning before Truman made a comeback attempt, bringing the game to within one. However,
Sam Peterson came in for the save in the bottom of the 9th to close out the Bulldogs. Starter
Roberto Garcia captured the win on the mound, going seven innings strong and finished with 3 Ks.
SBU will continue their weekend series against Truman State on Saturday with a double header at 1 & 4 PM.
