Columbia, Mo. – The SBU softball team took a break from non-conference action Wednesday afternoon taking on Stephens College Stars. Southwest Baptist swept the doubleheader adding two more wins to their total at 14-18 on the year.
Game 1: W, 14-1
The scoring got started in the second inning with an RBI going to Gracee Godfrey and two RBI's to
Shalie Wooden for an early 3-0 lead. That lead skyrocketed to 11 in the third inning including two home runs. The first came off the bat of Wooden for a three-run blast and later
Lexi Detwiler hit a solo shot. In the 4
th and 5
th innings the Bearcats tacked on three more runs with RBI's from
Kaitlyn Ragsdale,
Margo Frossard, and
Taylor McKee. Another Bearcat to record RBI's in the game included
Angie Micone with two.
Emma Kreisel started on the mound for SBU picking up the win throwing one strikeout.
Kylee Dewey and
Taylor Howard also saw time pitching to the Stars combining for three innings.
Game 2: W, 11-0
Bats continued to stay hot in game two of the day scoring four in the first inning. Detwiler got things started with an RBI single and soon after, stole second base allowing Frossard to steal home. Wooden added two RBI's to her day with a single scoring
Keeley Elsea and Detwiler. By the end of the second inning SBU had a 9-0 lead including two RBI's from Detwiler and
Audrey Rahlmann. Wooden then tallied her 8
th RBI of the day scoring Rahlmann. Ragsdale and
Kinleigh Kite added two RBI's in the 5
th for an 11-0 victory.
Shalie Wooden had an All-Star performance day with not only her eight RBI's but also threw and hitless two innings and picked up her fifth win of the season. Also seeing time on the mound was
Lindsey Essary and
Abby Leer combining for five strikeouts.
The Bearcat softball team will return to conference play and home this upcoming weekend. So far, the Bearcats have a 6-6 GLVC record and have played four of the top five teams in conference. Holding a 7
th place spot, the Bearcats look to go on a roll seeking the first ever GLVC tournament appearance. That streak starts on Saturday at 12pm as they host Quincy University at the SBU softball field.
