Bolivar, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University baseball team finished their weekend series against the Upper Iowa Peacocks with a 6-8 loss on Sunday. This moves the Bearcats to a record of 11-15 on the season and 4-4 in the GLVC.
The Bearcats suffered a slow start to the game, allowing three runs in the first inning. After the top of the 7
th inning, SBU was down 0-5. However, the Bearcats' offense came alive in the bottom of the 7
th beginning with a two-run home run by
Marcos Franjul. SBU scored their third run of the inning after a
Reese Ruderman double to right center, a
Mel Mulholland single to left field which advanced Ruderman to third, and a
Jack Harris single to center field which scored Ruderman.
The Bearcats continued their offensive push in the bottom of the 8
th inning after loading the bases with a couple of batters hit by pitches and a
Dominic Tellez single.
Sterling Jackson walked in the next at bat, sending
Hayden Prewitt home for the run. Upper Iowa responded with three more runs in the top of the 9
th inning. Despite RBIs from
Raydley Legito and Franjul scoring
Nick Brown and Legito in the bottom of the 9
th, Upper Iowa's eight runs proved to be too many to overcome.
Jaden Thacker recorded the loss on the mound after pitching six complete innings, making his personal record on the season 1-3.
Hayden Hable (1.2 IP),
Cade Langford (1.0 IP), and
Caden Norman (0.1 IP) all also saw time on the mound.
SBU will continue their season this next weekend with a four-game series against Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri. The first game of the weekend will begin at 3 PM on Friday, March 28.
