Wooden Pitches Complete Game Gem, Bearcats Split With Greyhounds

Indianapolis, IN - The SBU Softball team started their weekend road trip with a doubleheader split against the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds, moving them to 12-16 (6-4 GLVC).

Game 1: L, 5-13 (5 innings)

Emma Kreisel started on the mound in the first game, finishing with the loss which brings her to 4-8 on the season. Lindsey Essary, Abby Leer, and Kylee Dewey all saw time in relief.

The Greyhounds scored four in the bottom half of the 1st before SBU scored in the top of the 2nd on an RBI single from Emma Vincent that brought in Audrey Rahlmann. The Bearcats added more on a 3-run homer off the bat of Junior Graccee Godfrey that scored Angie Micone and Kate McConville. Despite another run from Emily Titus off a bases loaded HBP in the top of the 4th that brought them game within two, a 5 spot by UIndy in the bottom of the 5th sealed the deal.

Offensive highlights include a 2-3 line at the plate for McConville and four RBIs from Godfrey.

Game 2: W, 9-0 (5 innings)

SBU refused to get swept by picking up their first program win against the Greyhounds. Shalie Wooden pitched a complete game shutout that featured only three hits and six strikeouts. This moves her to 4-3 on the season.

Vincent started things off again on a fielder's choice that scored Keeley Elsea in the 2nd followed by a Hayley Sites 2-RBI single to center that brought in Lexi Detwiler and Shalie Wooden. Audrey Rahlmann was next to answer the call with a single that scored both Sites and Vincent, capping off a 5-run inning.

SBU exploded for four more runs in the 5th as Detwiler doubled to center to score Kaitlyn Ragsdale. Graccee Godfrey scored Sites and Detwiler on a single to right. Keeley Elsea walked, bringing in Angie Micone for run number nine.  Another shutout inning from Wooden in the 5th, handed a run-rule to the Greyhounds for the first time this season.

The Bearcats will be back in action Saturday for a quick turnaround as they will face the GLVC leading Lewis University Flyers at 12 & 2 PM.
