Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU softball continued their season Sunday afternoon falling to the #20 ranked McKendree Bearcats in a doubleheader. Those two losses move the team to 11-15 (5-3 GLVC) on the season.
Game 1: L, 10-12
The first game of the day was a battle to the very end from the Southwest Baptist Bearcats. Innings one and two were scoreless between the two teams with only three hits combined. From there the bats popped off, starting with McKendree as they scored 11 straight runs in the following two innings. SBU didn't give up as they battled back scoring six unanswered runs making it 6-11. After one more run in the 6
th by McKendree, SBU scored four more making it a two-run game. In the bottom of the 7
th, SBU had runners on 2
nd and 3
rd only down two but were unable to send those runners home falling in game one.
Audrey Rahlmann led the team in RBI's with three in the game off two hits. Both
Angie Micone and
Emma Vincent had team high three hits apiece.
Kate McConville and
Graccee Godfrey were the only other Bearcats with more than one RBI's, at two apiece.
Emma Kreisel started on the mound for the Bearcats throwing three strikeouts, recording the loss. Kreisel threw the first three innings then freshman
Abby Leer relieved her for the next four throwing five strikeouts.
Game 2: L, 0-12
In game number two, McKendree got off to a fast start scoring four in the first. After holding them scoreless for the next three innings, McKendree went on another run in the 5
th to put the game out of reach.
Kate McConville recorded the one hit for the game by the Bearcats with a double in the first inning.
Paige Leithead started on the mound for Southwest Baptist before
Shalie Wooden took over and pitched for a strong 3.2 innings, Leithead recorded the loss.
The Bearcats will return to action in a week as they head back on the road for more conference action. The first games will take place on Saturday, March 22
nd as they take on Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. The doubleheader will begin at noon.
