Shawnee, Kan. – The SBU softball team concluded the Midwest College Classic this Saturday afternoon after facing two tough opponents, #8 Rogers State University (RSU) and Northwest Missouri State University. The Bearcats move to a record of 6-10 overall after today's games.
Game 1 vs #8 Rogers State University: L, 3-15
Kate McConville and
Angie Micone helped SBU get an early lead on the game, putting 2 runs on the board in the top of the 1st inning. RSU responded with 15 runs in the following 3 innings.
Margo Frossard scored the game's final run for the Bearcats with a home run in the top of the 4th, finishing with a score of 3-15 to the nationally ranked Hillcats.
Micone kept up her impressive performance to begin the season, going two for two in the box today. On the mound for the Bearcats were
Kylee Dewey,
Taylor Howard, and
Shalie Wooden recording the loss.
Game 2 vs Northwest Missouri State University: L, 1-15
The second game of the day didn't favor the Bearcats much more as they trailed throughout the entire game. Three Bearcats recorded hits on the game in
Lexi Detwiler,
Shalie Wooden, and
Lucy Sadewhite. Wooden recorded the only RBI of the game for SBU with a single to left field scoring Detwiler. Four different Bearcats took the mound in
Emma Kreisel,
Kylee Dewey,
Abby Leer, and
Taylor Howard.
The Bearcats will return to action Monday, with a makeup doubleheader against Pittsburg State University. Their first game of the day will begin at 4:00 pm then later will play at 6:00 pm, both games taking place at Pittsburg, KS.
