Shawnee, Kan. – The SBU softball team took on two strong MIAA opponents Friday afternoon in Pittsburg State and Missouri Western. Both games were tightly contested but didn't go the way of the Bearcats as they move to 6-8 on the season.
Game 1 vs (RV) Pitt State: L, 4-6
SBU was the first the make it on the board off a run in the top of the 2
nd inning scored by
Margo Frossard. Four unanswered runs went the Gorillas way before an Audrey Ralhmann RBI double and an
Emma Vincent two run blast tied the game up at four in the top of the 6
th. The Nationally recognized Gorillas retook the lead in the bottom half to finish with a 4-6 win.
Sophomore
Angie Micone continued her strong start to the season recorded three hits on four at bats. Vincent led the way in RBI's with three off her one hit.
Margo Frossard continued to add to her record breaking career with another double and run scored.
Shalie Wooden,
Kylee Dewey, and
Abby Leer all appeared on the mound with Leer recording the loss.
Game 2 vs Missouri Western: L, 7-8
Differently than game one, the Bearcats led a majority of the game over the Griffons. After going down 0-2 in the top of the 3
rd, Southwest Baptist went on a 6-0 scoring run. This game off a Rahlmann three-run homerun,
Keeley Elsea two RBI double, and a
Shalie Wooden RBI single. They held a 6-4 lead heading into the final inning, before a rally from the Griffons ending with a three run homerun, put them ahead 6-8. Despite a valiant effort in the bottom half of the 7
th, the Bearcats were unable to come back from the late run.
With Rahlmann's third homerun of the season she had a team high three RBI's to make it 13 on the season. Micone recorded another two hits in the game along with
Kate McConville and
Shalie Wooden.
Paige Leithead got the start on the mound for the Bearcats throwing five strong innings only allowing two runs off five hits.
Emma Kreisel came in to relieve her and threw for three innings with three strikeouts, but unable to have the same success as Leithead, recording the loss.
The Bearcats will return to action Saturday, continuing in the Midwest College Classic. Their first game of the day will begin at 11:00am against the #8 ranked team in the Nation of Rogers State then later will play Northwest Missouri at 4:00pm
