Bolivar, Mo. – The SBU baseball team continued their season opening series Saturday afternoon hosting Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm. The Bearcats split the day going 1-1, moving to 3-1 on the season.
Game 1 vs Southern Nazarene; Loss 3-4
Southwest Baptist controlled for a majority of the game leading 3-1 before a three run final inning from Southern Nazarene handed SBU their first loss of the season. Junior
Jaden Thacker pitched for five strong innings allowing only one run and three hits, Ethan Clark relieved him in the 6
th, recording the loss. Freshman
Xie Ferguson went 2 for 3 in the game recording a solo home run in the 4
th inning. Senior
Raydley Legito also led the team in hits with two in the game
Game 2 vs Southern Nazarene; Win 6-1
The Bearcats hot start to the season continued in game two as they dominated the Crimson Storm for win number three. Freshman Adian Hoffman began his college career in stellar fashion pitching for six innings allowing only one run and two hits while recording six strikeouts. Despite falling down 1-0 in the first inning, the Bearcats scored six unanswered runs. Reese Ruderman led the team in RBI's with two off of two hits.
Dominic Tellez,
Zeke Skinner, Sam Schmidt, and Hayden Prewitt also recorded an RBI in the game.
The Bearcats will continue action next weekend as they head to Kansas to take on MIAA opponent Newman University.
