Wichita Falls, TX - The SBU Softball team continued their early season play on Friday with two games at the Mustang Roundup. They went 1-1, bringing their season record to 2-4.
Game 1 vs. Northwestern Oklahoma State University: W, 3-2
Securing her second win of the young season, Junior
Shalie Wooden pitched a complete game that featured 5 strikeouts. Offensively, the Bearcats finished with 7 hits and did all their damage in the 2nd inning behind the powerful bat of Senior
Lexi Detwiler. After a pair of singles from
Audrey Rahlmann and
Emma Vincent, Detwiler sent one over the center field fence for a 3-run home run. Despite a late push from the Rangers, SBU was able to hold on for the victory.
Game 2 vs. Cameron University: L, 5-13
Junior
Emma Kreisel started on the mound but struggled to find any rhythm.
Kylee Dewey (1.0 IP) and
Taylor Howard (3.1 IP) finished out the game for the Bearcats. The Aggies of Cameron University jumped out to a fast start, scoring 7 runs in the first 2 innings. Add on another 2 in the top of the 3rd, and the Lady Bearcats found themselves in a hole. Determined to make it a game, SBU answered with a 5 spot in the bottom half of the 3rd. Designated hitter Angie Micone got things started with a single, followed by a walk from
Margo Frossard. Senior
Audrey Rahlmann finished with 2 RBIs on a double that scored both Micone and Frossard. Eventually, Freshman Emily Titus hit a sac fly that scored Rahlmann and a few at bats later, Graduate
Kate McConville singled home
Hayley Sites and Keeley Elsea. The Rangers answered in the 5th inning with 4 runs, putting the game out of reach.
SBU will continue competing at the Mustang Roundup on Saturday as they prepare to face Midwestern State University (TX) at 12:30 PM and Fort Hays State University (KS) at 3:00 PM.
