Bolivar, Mo - This Friday, Bearcat baseball started their season off strong with two wins against Southern Nazarene University. SBU dominated the scoreboard on their opening day, with final scores of 8-0 and 8-4.
Game one went all the Bearcats way shutting the Crimson Storm out 8-0, for their largest shutout win since 2019. The SBU offense started out strong with a home run by Junior Lane Snow in the first inning, scoring 2 runs. They continued to put runs up on the board in the second, scoring 5 total.
Dominic Tellez scored his 3rd run of the day in the bottom of the seventh, solidifying the 8-0 Bearcat win.
Roberto Garcia and Nash Crosby combined in the 9-inning shutout with Crosby picking up the win. Garcia pitched a strong 4.2 innings recording a career high 7 strikeouts only allowing two hits.
In game two, Southwest Baptist got an early lead and scored 8 runs in the first 3 innings. Southern Nazarene put their first runs up later on in the game, scoring 4 in the fifth and sixth. At the top of the stat sheet for the Bearcats was Tellez with a total of 3 runs, 3 hits, and 2 RBIs between the two games. Senior Ryan McClish picked up his first Bearcat win going for 5 innings throwing six strikeouts and only allowing one hit.
The Bearcats are back in action tomorrow for another double header against Southern Nazarene. First pitch is at 1:00pm and 4:00pm at Dodson Field in Bolivar, Mo.
