St. Louis, MO. - The SBU Men's Basketball team dropped a high scoring overtime thriller to the Maryville University Saints by a score of 99-104. This moves them to 7-18 (4-15 GLVC).
SBU started out fast by racing to an 18-9 lead in a half that featured five lead changes. Maryville answered with a run of their own shortly after. However, thanks to a solid 50% shooting from beyond the arc, the Bearcats went into the half only down three (46-49).Â
Midway into the second half, the Bearcats found some rhythm as they went on a 10-0 run and gained control of the game behind consistent contributions from Junior
Bayley Crawford and Senior
Branden Eckles. The Bearcats held the lead for the remainder of regulation until Maryville tied it late at 91-91 with 13 seconds left, sending it to overtime. The Saints used this momentum in OT as they closed it out for the victory.
The stat sheet shines a light on many bright spots for the Bearcats as they shot 65% from the field and 70% from three in the second half. Six Bearcats scored in double-figures, led by a career high of 21 points for Freshman
Barron Silsby (7-13 FG, 4-7 3PT). Senior
David Hector also added a season high of 19 points to go along with 7 rebounds. Eckles went 7-9 from the field to reach his season high of 17 and
Luke Ogle finished with a double-double of 12 points and 13 rebounds.
