St. Louis, Mo. – The Men's Tennis team continued their successful away trip where took a narrow 4-3 victory against Maryville University. The win pushed the Bearcats to a winning record of 3-2.
The Bearcats were unable to claim victory in the doubles point. The #1 and #2 matches were tightly contested, however, as they both finished with a score of 6-7. The Bearcats' one doubles victory came in dominant fashion in the #1 spot, with
Marcio Silva and
Juan Ignacio Morresi able to dismantle their opponents by a score of 6-1.
SBU was much more dominant in the singles matches. In the #1 spot,
Silva earned his second victory of the day in two sets (6-3, 6-4). Alejandro
Beneyto Sanchez overpowered his opponent in the #2 spot, winning his sets 6-1 and 6-2.
Bojan Radoman's match in the #3 spot was much closer, but he still prevailed in two sets (7-6, 6-4). The Bearcats' fourth victory of the day, and the one sealing the win over the Saints, came from Alejandro
Bravo Diaz in the #5 spot. He won his sets 6-3 and 7-6. In the #4 spot,
Morresi played a close match but could not quite get the better of his opponent in a third set (4-6, 6-1, 3-6).
Riolo rounded off the day in the #6 spot (3-6, 4-6).
The Bearcats are back at it again tomorrow, February 23, in Lebanon, Illinois. They will be facing the other purple Bearcats of McKendree University.
