Kirksville, Mo. – Finishing their conference play of 2025, the SBU men's basketball team returns to Bolivar in a good mood. Using a 23-0 run to their advantage, the Bearcats defeated the Truman State Bulldogs 76-61. This is the men's basketball first win in Kirksville since 2009 and moves them to 5-4 (2-2 GLVC) on the season.
Southwest Baptist took a hit early as the Bulldogs knocked down their first two three's of the game for a quick 0-6 deficit. Both teams traded some baskets for the next few minutes until Truman started knocking down more three's. With seven in the first half that helped them keep a two possession lead until four minutes left in the half.
Trailing 24-29, the Bearcats took over ending the first half on a 9-0 run with five points from
Zac Reedus and four from
Jevin Sullivan. The last two from Sullivan was on a put back dunk as time expired. He took that momentum into the second half knocking a three pointer in the first possession. His teammates followed him with three more in back-to-back-to-back fashion. Two came from sophomore
Brandon Moore and one from junior
Lachie McKain. One more fast break layup from Moore concluded the epic 23-0 run for a 47-29 lead.
SBU held onto that lead all the way through for their second 15+ point conference win this season. Sullivan had a career game with career highs in both points (23) and rebounds (14). His second straight double-double had him finish the with 45 points, 33 rebounds, and shooting 55% from the field, making him a potential GLVC player of the week.
The ever-reliable
Zac Reedus tied Sullivan for a game high 23 points in the game. He shot 58.3% from the field and 87.5% from the free throw line to go along with his seven rebounds. Along with Sullivan, he had a strong week with 59 total points shooting a stellar 60% from the field.
Heading into finals week with some momentum, the Bearcats will take a break before returning to non-conference action. That will be against a new MIAA opponent in Newman university. This will take place on Tuesday, December 16
th at 3:00 p.m. in Wichita, Kan.
