Wichita, Kan. – SBU men's basketball hit the road for the final time in 2025, Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game against Newman University. The Bearcats prevailed with a dominating 95-74 victory moving them to 6-4 on the season.
It was a hot start from the Bearcats knocking down their first three, three-pointers of the game for a quick 11-6 lead. After a layup by
Zac Reedus, the team's next eight baskets were all three pointers skyrocketing them to a 15-point lead with six minutes remaining in the first half. It didn't stop there as they hit two more threes to finish the first half going 13-18 for 72.2%. Sophomore
Barron Silsby was a perfect 5-5 during that time as they entered the locker room up 50-37.
The offense was spread evenly throughout the second half capitalizing on the pressure around the three-point line, the Bearcats scored more within the paint. Early into the half the lead expanded to 18 off two layups by
Jevin Sullivan and another three from
Lachie McKain. The Jets kept pushing back with occasional sparks, but each time a big bucket by the Bearcat tamed the flame. Though the three-point shooting wasn't the same as the first, SBU still went 7-13 for 53.9%.
Combined, the sharpshooters knocked down 20 threes, the most against an NCAA DII opponent in over 23 years. Even more impressive is they made those 20 shooting at a 64.5% clip. Six different Bearcats made a three in the game with four making more than three.
McKain scored an SBU career high with 18 points splashing home six three-pointers at a 75% clip. Leading all in scoring was
Brandon Moore with his second 20-point game of the season. He shot 54% from the field with his five rebounds, four assists, and four steals. Silsby tagged along 19 points with four rebounds and three assists. Reedus continued his streak of perfect double-digit games this season with 13 points. Sullivan had a team high and SBU career high with 10 assists on the game, just one point shy of a double-double.
The team will return to action in a few short days as they host another MIAA opponent in Missouri Southern. This game will take place at 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon in the Meyer Center.
