Bearcats Honor Two Seniors in Final Home Game of Season

BOLIVAR, Mo. — Saturday afternoon the Southwest Baptist University women's volleyball team battled the Maryville Saints, falling 0-3. Though the final score wasn't what the Bearcats hoped for, the match featured strong defensive plays, hustle, and teamwork throughout the court.

In the first set of the match, the Bearcats went back and forth in the early goings until the Saints went on a 10-1 run. That ended the first set in a final score of 17-25 in Maryville's favor. The Bearcats turned that momentum around in the second set leading for the beginning of the match until the Saints went on a run and held to finish set two 19-25. The third set was the final set for the two Bearcat seniors as the Saints won again 19-25.

With more than 200 fans in attendance, SBU women's volleyball got to honor their two seniors Rory Stanley and Katie Pogue. Stanley will be graduating in just three years with the plans to attend medical school after graduation. She has achieved over 300 blocks in her career and is the only Bearcat to have earned the GLVC Defensive Player of the Week award. Pogue, has been a four year player for the Bearcats and plans to work in the ER or ICU as a nurse. She has put up astounding numbers with over 1,700 assists, currently sitting at 6th in SBU all-time records.

In today's game, Pogue had another double-double with 11 assists, 11 digs, and 9 kills for a near triple-double. Stanley had five kills, one assisted block, and two digs. It was an impressive match from Freshman Gabriela Dupree who had 16 kills in just three sets averaging 5.3 kills per set.

Although the season is nearing its end, the Bearcats remain determined to finish strong and continue improving. They will wrap up their season on the road, beginning with University of Indianapolis on Friday, November 14th.
