Indianapolis, Ind. - The SBU women's volleyball team began their final weekend of play Friday evening in a different time zone. In a close match, the Bearcats fell to the Indianapolis Greyhounds 2-3. This moves them to 8-19 (1-11 GLVC) on the season.

Sets one and two were not in the favor of Southwest Baptist as they scored a total of 31 points combined in those going down 0-2. All hope seemed dire early into the third set as they tailed 1-6. Their heart showed out in the next set as they battled back point-by-point and used an 8-1 run to propel them to a 16-13 lead. Indianapolis tried to battle back, but SBU held on for a 25-21 victory in set three.Â

The fight didn't end there as they brought the momentum into the 4th set looking to keep the Greyhounds at bay a little longer. This set started out quick for the Bearcats as they got out to a 12-4 lead early. Indianapolis was determined to comeback as they brought it to within two points at 13-11. SBU would hold that lead throughout the 4th to force a thrilling 5th set and threaten the reverse sweep.Â

Indianapolis got off to an early 0-2 lead before the teams went back-and-forth for the next few points. Trailing by three, the Bearcats heart showed through on a 5-1 run for a 9-8 lead. The Greyhounds responded with a 0-4 run of their own and held on from there ending the Bearcats hopes of a heroic comeback.Â

Senior
Katie Pogue started her final weekend of collegiate volleyball with remarkable numbers achieving a triple-double. She was second on the team in kills (13) and assists (21), but secured the triple-double leading the team in digs with 15. Pogue added four assisted blocks. Leading the team in kills once again for SBU was freshman
Gabriela Dupree bringing her season total to 343. The other senior,
Rory Stanley, had nine kills in the game to go along with her two serving aces and three assisted blocks.Â

SBU will finish their season in less than 24 hours as they compete against the Lewis University Flyers. This game will take place on Saturday in Romeoville, Illinois at 3:00 p.m.
